In 2005, 2 Shea Charters was brand new to the Tampa Bay area running a single 24-ft. center console. With consistency and integrity, Captain TJ grew his passion to now offer experiences on three boats, including a custom 42-ft. Dorado luxury sport fish along with a 31-ft. Southport center console and a 30-ft. Island Hopper.
For our Clearwater diving and fishing charters, TJ has received local and regional recognition in a variety of magazines, internet information boards, and television appearances, in addition to the greatest credential – repeat clients from all over the world!
In TJ’s words: When I’m not helping clients reel in a great catch or explore the depths, I can be found looking through my mask for my next super secret spot or hooking my two children on their next biggest catches. Now, if I could only get my lovely bride to bait her own hook!
The 2 Shea Charters Crew
I have been fishing and diving in the Gulf of Mexico since moving to Florida at the age of 5 from Wildwood, New Jersey. Working my way from mate on my dad’s charter boat, to captain, to a business owner of 2 Shea Charters today is exhilarating…as it’s known as one of the most respected charter operations around in fishing, scuba diving and spearfishing on the West Coast of Florida. To compliment my love of fishing, I’m also an avid, experienced diver and spearfisherman. After being certified to dive at 10, I have been fortunate to dive in some of the world’s most beautiful places from the Great Barrier Reef and Port Lincoln, Australia (with a few Great Whites), to the Wall in Grand Cayman, across the Bahamas, and off of the west coast of Mexico. Being a diver is a huge asset to how I operate fishing charters. I drop in on all of my fishing spots to check out where the fish sit on certain wrecks and where the backdoor holes are on the ledges that line our coast. I have the experience to challenge the most serious anglers and the understanding to help the most novice get hooked.
I get the greatest thrills from watching clients bring in the catch of a lifetime — their first or their fiftieth. I’m passionate about what I do, the value of a great day on or in the water brings to a person, and about the quality of equipment I use. My enthusiasm comes through on all my charters – unlike many captains that sit in a fly bridge all day and have a mate, I am very hands on with my clients and work hard to make the most out of each charter.
Born and raise in Houston, TX grew up fishing the offshore waters and oil platforms off the Texas coast. After moving to Louisiana he discovered life is better under water with diving and spearfishing. These days you can find him running divers, fishing, or diving himself off of Clearwater or Tarpon Springs any day the weather allows!
Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, I’ve been fishing the Gulf and inshore waters since I was 5 years old. I would come down to Florida on vacation with my grandparents and this is how I actually met Captain TJ. I’ve been fortunate (or unfortunate) to have been friends with him throughout the years. I eventually moved down to Tampa in 2007 to further my professional career and to be closer to the water.
I started working as a dedicated mate over the weekends on the “2Shea” which would sometimes lead to me taking a “sick” day here and there during the week. After meeting some other local spearfishermen, I was invited to join the St. Petersburg Underwater Club (SPUC) where I’m currently an officer. The club hosts the world’s largest spearfishing tournament known as the St. Pete Open. Between diving off of the “2Shea” and with other more experienced SPUC members, my knowledge for the local fishery greatly increased. I’ve been fortunate to catch/shoot some very nice fish along with seeing some pretty cool things through the years. In 2013, I obtained my U.S. Coast Guard OUPV (6-pack) license and began running fishing and spearfishing trips on the “2Shea”.
Every trip I try to make sure my customers have fun and arrive back at the dock safely (I’ve learned you get better tips when you bring everyone back) along with catching some fish. When I’m not running the “2Shea”, I’m usually underwater somewhere in the Gulf.

The 2 Shea Charters Fleet
An exceptional ride awaits you on 2 Shea’s newest boat: a Southport 33FE. Exceptionally outfitted with Raymarine electronics our experienced captains slice through the Gulf of Mexico waters like butter on the way to our favorite spots.
She features a full 360 degree fishing platform to comfortable fish six passengers. For our dive trips we artfully rigged this boat to dive eight passengers in style and combine that with a washroom that meets the criteria of the pickiest, my wife and daughter. Twin 350 HP Yamaha engines allow us to cruise at just under 40 mph which means more fishing and diving time for you. She features all the comforts of home, even your favorite television shows streaming live powered by Raymarine and DirectTV.
Come experience the best center console on the market, Southport boats, and let her help make your trip with us an epic one.
The original 2 Shea is a custom rigged, open fisherman center-console from Southport Boatworks. With an overall length of 29 feet and a 10.6 foot beam, it’s a supreme fishing and diving vessel. The design is a perfect combination of comfort, safety, and speed. Southport boats boast a reverse chime and huge Carolina flair to ensure the driest rides in any condition. Combine that with a foam-filled hull, the result is an incredibly smooth ride in an unsinkable boat.
Twin 250 4-Stroke Yamaha engines power the 2 Shea to give her the ability to reach 55 mph or “cruise” quietly at 40 mph. You’re surrounded by comfortable and functional seating/leaning on board including a massive cushioned “coffin” box and wrap-around cockpit bolsters. Other creature comforts include the full head, a 6 disk CD player/Sirius satellite radio, and an oversized hard top that provides lots of shade from the powerful Florida rays.
Whether you are dropping your lines from or taking a plunge off of this 2 Shea, you’re sure to be impressed.
