After running a 2 tank morning certification dive trip for Ed White at Tampa Scuba Diving we decided to go back out for an afternoon of spearfishing. Capt Ray got off work early so I could get in the water and do a dive or 4. Visibility was incredible and there was life everywhere, but just no sizable hogfish. We hit 5 spots in different water depths and the story was the same everywhere we went. The disappearing act hogfish pull in April may be rearing its ugly head. On the flip side I have never seen so many huge gag grouper in my life. We really need to get out here and film this and send it off to NMFS and tell them they can take their depleted gag grouper data and shove it!!!!! My dive buddy and I saw the biggest gag I have ever seen in 30 years on the Gulf today in 50 feet of water. Despite the lack of shootable fish we all enjoyed a great afternoon on the water and it wont be long till May when those big male hogs always show back up.
